With the many demands of everyday life, it is easy for us to overlook the importance of sleep.

Although it may feel like the time spent sleeping could be better expended elsewhere, the truth is you should never underestimate how important a good nights rest is (particularly for muscle growth and recovery)!

Achieving good sleep is vital as it affects our mental, physical and emotional well-being. From a fitness point of view, sleep is one of the times that your body produces the most growth hormone. In turn, the more sleep you get, the faster your muscles will heal and recover from exercise!

Beyond BCAA has been formulated to include the 3 key essential amino acids: leucine, iso-leucine and valine in the clinically proven 2:1:1 ratio to promote muscle growth and repair, and reduce next day soreness. Click here to find out more!

Snooze your way to better health

A sleep deficit will always catch up to you - eventually, your body will demand the sleep that it needs. While you may get used to a sleep-depriving schedule, your judgement, reaction time and other functions are still impaired. It can also lead to significant health problems, such as:

- Depression

- Headaches

- Impaired Heart Functioning

So how much sleep is needed?

The amount of sleep each person needs is dependent on many factors - most important of which is age.

Scientific studies and overall general consensus suggests that an adult should get around 7-8 hours a night for the best amount of sleep, although some people might need as few as 5, while others may function better with 10 hours.

Improve Sleep Quality!

- Make it a routine: establish some pre-sleep rituals and wind down from your daily activities!
- Avoid caffeine or other stimulants within four hours of bedtime
- Avoid strenuous exercise within two to three hours of bedtime
- Minimise light and noise in your bedroom
- Avoid large meals before bedtime - large meals keep the digestive system active and can disrupt your sleep

Never underestimate a good nights rest - sleep is essential for muscle repair and gain!
